While diarrhea during early pregnancy is quite normal, many women experience it even in the later stages of the pregnancy. In fact, some women have it right before they begin labor. Causes of Diarrhea During Pregnancy

While the body is trying to readjust to your new situation, it is vital to give it a break and consume healthy food. Processed food contributes to stomach problems and is the leading cause of diarrhea. In the later stages of pregnancy, diarrhea accompanied with nausea, vomiting and abdominal bloating can be dangerous.

Sometimes, you may experience constipation and then suddenly the stools turn watery. This happens because when a woman has chronic constipation, there may be fecal impaction where the bowels are partially obstructed with stool. A doctor would be able to help resolve such a case.

If the diarrhea is sudden and violent, continuing over a 24 hour period, it may be a case of food poisoning and immediate treatment should be taken in such a case. If you are experiencing diarrhea, keep drinking a lot of fluids. Water and fresh juices can help you maintain the hydration levels of the body. However, it is best that you avoid artificially flavored drinks.
