When there is lesser circulation of blood, it could lead to stiff joints during pregnancy. This can cause swelling in the fingers, arms, ankles, knees, hips, and pelvic areas. In some, there could be fluid collection that can be painful as the joints become stiff. Stiffness during pregnancy can make ordinary tasks like getting out of bed, climbing stairs, getting in and out of the car, or turning in bed difficult. Joint stiffness during pregnancy needs extra attention as it is important to strengthen the joints that play an essential role in the birthing process. You also need strength the joints after delivery so to take care of the baby and yourself.

Treatment for Joint Stiffness in Pregnancy

For joint strength during pregnancy, you need to check for any deficiency in the body. You might need to take calcium, magnesium, and vitamin supplements. Consult your doctor for any medication, as OTC painkillers can prove harmful to your unborn baby. Try to alleviate pain through massages, a healthy diet, and regular exercises.

Joint rigidity during pregnancy can also make the joints sore, so it is important to keep the hands or legs raised to improve circulation and drain the fluids. Massaging with sesame or olive oil to ease the pain is also known to be helpful; ideally, you should soak in a hot water tub after the massage. For joint stiffness during pregnancy massaging coconut oil that has been boiled with little camphor is also helpful.

You could also exercise moderately to ease joint stiffness and make them flexible. Do not exert yourself too much, however, and make sure to rest well. Ensure that your diet includes all the needed nutrients; include green leafy vegetables, fruits and milk, and plenty of water. Pain relieving gels can also be applied to ease joint tightness during pregnancy. However, do not rub too hard as this can make the joints and the skin sore. Also, keep your posture right while sitting, standing, or walking. Avoid being in one position for long periods and always wear comfortable clothing and foot wear that support you well.
