In most cases, it is seen that women who have gestational diabetes during pregnancy may be required to go for a cesarean delivery rather than a vaginal delivery. Additionally if the woman is diabetic during pregnancy then there are high chances of her developing gestational diabetes in future pregnancies as well. The woman may also be at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes at a later stage in their life.

Diabetes during pregnancy effects in the baby may be observed in the baby being larger than normal because the baby had to produce extra insulin to control the increase in the blood sugar which in turn results in more tissue and fat to be stored in the baby's body. As a result of the large size of the baby, delivery may also be difficult and may have some complications.
