Dietary Fiber Cuts Risk Of Pregnancy Complications
Pregnancy is a phase in a woman’s life which is full of excitement and anxiety. It is extremely tiresome for a woman to carry the baby and then deliver it. Pregnant women need to follow a regulated diet to sustain or thrive at this stage.
During pregnancy, a diet rich in fiber is absolutely necessary to avoid complications. It is a well established fact that a larger intake of fiber cuts the risk of complications in pregnancy.
If you are an expecting mother and have a family history of hypertension and/or type 2 diabetes, then you are highly prone to preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is a serious condition that occurs when the blood pressure is abnormally elevated. It usually happens due to constipation and obesity, both of which are a common phenomenon during pregnancy.
A higher fiber intake prevents such conditions. Though red meat contains a lot of fiber, it is not easily digested during pregnancy and may cause constipation. Further, it can lead to an increase in cholesterol in the blood resulting in high blood pressure. Therefore, it is advisable that you avoid consuming red meat during pregnancy. Do not get carried away by the experiences of your friends who may tell you that they did not experience any complications during their pregnancy, even though they had a lot of meat in their diet. You may need to change your eating habits for the duration of your pregnancy. Fiber content in your diet can also help in purification of the blood. Intestines get thoroughly cleaned with the fibrous material, thereby preventing bacterial development in your body.
Green vegetables and certain cereals are the best sources of fiber in your diet. You can add the following dietary supplements to your daily diet so as to increase the fiber intake through your food.
• You are advised to eat at least two raw carrots twice a day. In addition to fiber, you will also receive other vital nutrients.
• You must eat a lot of cabbage, spinach, green peas, and other green vegetables.
• Prior to beginning your meal, you must consume soups using ingredients like sweet corn. Corn contains a considerable amount of much needed fiber.
• For dinner, you may eat porridge made of wheat grains. Porridge is one of the best sources of fiber in food.
For more precise guidance, you are advised to consult your diet planner or your health care specialist. You must be very cautious with your diet during pregnancy
