Lower Back Pain And Miscarriage
Lower back pain and miscarriage generally go hand in hand. Lower back pain after miscarriage is one of the most commonly seen symptoms that follow a miscarriage and is either constant or sharp, usually more than the pain experienced during a regular menstrual period. During a pregnancy, the uterus keeps expanding steadily to accommodate the little being within it. With an increase in size, the strain exerted on the connective tissues that hold the uterus in place also increases. When a woman miscarries, the uterus begins its journey to regaining its original size and shape after the expulsion of the baby. This process leads to the contraction of the connecting tissues thus resulting in some amount of pain. The severity and time span of the pain varies from woman to woman. The contraction of the uterus leads to abdominal cramping which may vary from mild to severe. Bleeding and the passage of clots may continue for a few days after a miscarriage and a few months may be needed before the body sets into a normal menstrual cycle once again.
Lower Back Pain During Pregnancy
Lower back pain during a pregnancy is considered to be a sign of abnormalities in the pregnancy. Hence, a woman experiencing pain at any stage during the pregnancy must intimate her doctor at the earliest. The best remedy for dealing with lower back pain (miscarriage) is sufficient rest. Rest and sleep are the two factors that ensure that the body is not overexerted thus promoting quicker recovery. A healthy balanced diet is also essential in order to mend the worn out tissues. A moderately hot bath helps in relaxing the body and soothing the senses. The use of a hot water bag or hot compress over the affected area will also provide relief from pain and reduces the severity of cramps. Light stretching exercises will also prove beneficial.
