Signs of Miscarriage First Trimester
Submitted by Nick on January 17, 2012
A miscarriage is the spontaneous abortion of a fetus by the mother's body for some reason. Many pregnancies end in miscarriages, some without even being noticed. A woman is said to be pregnant when a fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterus lining and begins to develop. The natural method for achieving a pregnancy is unprotected sexual intercourse. A miscarriage occurs when the uterus fails and lets the fetus go before the term of pregnancy is complete and before the fetus is capable of surviving.

The duration of pregnancy in human women is about 9 months. This period is divided into three parts known as trimesters. The first trimester is when most of the miscarriages take place. It usually takes a few weeks for a woman to detect that she is pregnant. During this time, some abnormality in the pregnancy may result in the baby being lost without the knowledge of the mother. It should be noted that the size of the fetus at this stage may be as small as a pea. Miscarriages occur because of problems with the fetus or problems with the mother's reproductive system. If the fetus has some genetic flaw, the body may spontaneously abort it. This is the natural way in which nature tries to ensure that abnormally formed children are not born. These abnormalities could harm the mother and will definitely affect the life of the child.
When a woman is aware of her pregnancy, she may look for signs of a miscarriage that could indicate that she is suffering from some abnormality in her pregnancy. The most common signs of miscarriage in the first trimester are bleeding and abdominal pain. When the pregnancy is failing, the body may start releasing the fetus which will cause bleeding. In some cases, a woman may experience signs of miscarriage in the first trimester but go on to have a successful and eventless pregnancy. This is why the woman should visit her pregnancy specialist when she experiences excessive pain, spotting or full blown bleeding. The specialist will be able to determine the condition of the fetus and the pregnancy and will give recommendations about what can be done to manage the situation.
A miscarriage indicates that there is something wrong with the pregnancy that has just been aborted. This does not mean that the woman is incapable of conceiving and having a successful pregnancy in the future unless there is some obvious abnormality in her system.
