In most cases a miscarriage at 4 weeks is quite common, as the woman may not even realise that she is pregnant at this time. Some of the signs of miscarriage at 4 weeks include, experiencing a bleeding similar to a heavy period, along with some dark blood clots. In most cases the signs of miscarriage at 4 weeks will also include cramping and sharp abdominal pain. Another sign of miscarriage at 4 weeks is vaginal spotting. The risk of miscarriage at 4 weeks or in the first trimester of pregnancy is mostly in case of any genetic abnormalities that may be present in the baby. The chances of miscarriage at 4 weeks are also high in case of older women or women who have a history of smoking and alcohol consumption. There is a higher chance of experiencing a miscarriage at 4 weeks pregnant, if the women have unhealthy eating habits, are obese or even in those women who overexert themselves.

To minimize the risk of a miscarriage at 4 weeks of pregnancy, it is essential that the pregnant woman gets plenty of rest and follows a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables. A miscarriage at 4 weeks pregnant may also occur because the fertilized egg may have not attached itself properly to the walls of the uterine lining or even on account of abnormal growth of the chromosomes and genes. The chances of a miscarriage at 4 weeks are also high in women who are suffering from high diabetes or thyroid disease. The risk of a miscarriage at 4 weeks is also high if the woman is suffering from some viral infection which may weaken the body. If the woman has a history of uterus or hormonal problems, the chances of a miscarriage are quite high. A miscarriage at 4 weeks pregnant is known to be a very traumatic experience for the woman and could result in the woman going into postpartum depression, headaches and even experience dizziness for some time. Miscarriages in the early stages of pregnancy are known to be commonly observed and could be caused on account of structural problems in the woman’s reproductive tract.  Uterine fibroids or even chromosomal abnormalities are known to be risk factors for a miscarriage at 4 weeks.
