It is quite common for women to experience fatigue in the first trimester of their pregnancy. This happens because of the significant hormonal changes that take place in the body in order to accommodate the growing fetus and prepare itself for the strain of childbirth. Pregnant women often suffer from nausea and vomiting and feel the urge to urinate frequently in the early stages of pregnancy, which drains their body of energy and makes them feel sluggish. Moreover, these symptoms often cause disruption in the normal sleep pattern of the would-be mother, leading to a feeling of tiredness all through the day. Also, the growing fetus increasingly consumes essential minerals and vitamins from the mother’s bloodstream, which further adds to the feeling of listlessness. Some women may also suffer from anemia during pregnancy, which could be a major cause behind weakness and exhaustion. Anxiety and mood swings that women frequently suffer from during this period may also contribute to the problem. While it is always a good idea to consult your doctor if you think your symptoms are unusual, a few simple home remedies can help solve the problem to a great extent.

You should eat several small meals at frequent intervals throughout the day to stay energized, and drink plenty of water and natural fruit juices to prevent dehydration. Avoid artificially sweetened and caffeinated drinks and stay away from excessively oily and greasy foodstuff. Including fresh fruits and raw vegetables in the diet is a good idea, as they help meet the increasing requirement of essential nutrients in the body. Do not engage yourself in strenuous household chores or stressful work schedules but do take short walks and practice simple yogic exercises after consulting your doctor to maintain good blood circulation in the body.

If you suffer from disturbed sleep, massage your temples very gently with a few drops of chamomile tea before going to bed. This reduces physical and mental stress and induces sound sleep. You should also take short naps during the day if you feel like it. Soaking your feet in a tub of lukewarm water into which a few drops of essential lavender oil have been added is also known to be of great help in relaxing and rejuvenating the stressed muscles of the body. Adding a few drops of lemon juice and honey to a cup of warm herbal tea and drinking this is also useful in revitalizing the body. It is important to check with your doctor before you make any alterations to your diet or daily care regimen.
