...baby’s head and also the eyebrows will begin to form. However this hair both on the baby’s head and also on the eyebrows may change in color and texture post the baby’s birth. Around this time the baby is able to hold on, to squint, to grimace and to frown. The baby will also be able to grasp and even suck his or her thumb. Around the 14th week of pregnancy there may be two ultrasounds that are conducted. One scan is used in dating and the other scan is the nuchal translucency one which is useful in checking if one’s baby might be suffering from Down’s syndrome. If the mother is over 35 years of age then it is essential to get this scan done.

Around this week the baby’s facial muscles will begin to work as the baby makes various expressions. This is due the brain impulses of the child. The baby’s kidneys will now begin to produce urine which is then released by the baby into all the fluid known as amniotic fluid which is what surrounds the child. This process will continue all the way till the birth of the baby. The spleen of the baby will also start to help in making of the red blood cells. At this time the mother’s uterus will have reached just above her pubic bone. This is what causes the stomach to come out. Most mothers will like to check the sex of the baby; however some countries do not permit this. Now that the morning sickness has reduced and also the breast tenderness and fatigue, the woman can now spend some time in preparing for the baby. If there is already an older sibling then preparing the child is also a good idea. Around this time the woman can join some prenatal exercise session along with other pregnant women.
