Remedies for Common Cold in Toddlers

Here are few toddler cold remedies that can help in reducing discomfort. Give the child a spoonful of honey twice a day. This will help in soothing the throat while also helping them sleep better. Make them drink plenty of fluids such as vegetable and fruit juices; this will help in draining out the mucus. Water in particular is essential when one has a cold, so make sure that the child has a sufficient intake of water. Boil a teaspoon of crushed ginger in 500 ml of water for about 5-10 minutes. Once the decoction cools, strain the water into a glass and add a spoon of honey. Feed a teaspoon of this tea to the toddler every two hours. This treatment is very effective in treating a cold and helps to ease any congestion and irritation. Steam therapy is also an excellent remedy. Run a hot shower for a few minutes and let the steam build up in the room. Let the child inhale the hot steam for a few minutes as this will help in clearing the nasal passage. Placing a humidifier in the child's room at bedtime would also help to a large extent.

Toddler Cold sores are not caused by the same virus that causes the common cold. This condition is brought about by the herpes simplex virus. It is characterized by the formation of painful, small, fluid-filled sores or blisters on the lips, nose or mouth. This is a contagious condition that is spread from one person to the next, through direct contact. If your toddler has cold sores, then consulting his/her pediatrician immediately, is highly recommended.
