Toddler Bronchitis
An inflammation of the mucus membranes in the airway passages of the respiratory tract is called bronchitis. In children, bronchitis is often triggered by a respiratory infection that spreads to the nose, throat and airways of a toddler. The heavy mucus that develops as a result of the infection causes great discomfort. A constant dry cough or a cough accompanied by the expulsion of thick green or yellow mucus, difficulty breathing, wheezing, upper chest pain, tiredness and a fever are all indicators of toddler bronchitis. A change in weather, dust, fumes and smoke are other causes of bronchitis.
Toddler Bronchitis Remedy
A healthy meal routine and sufficient rest is the best remedy for toddler bronchitis. Vitamin C is known for its ability to boost the immune system thus giving it the strength to fight off various infections. Gooseberries, strawberries, lemons, guavas, grapefruit and oranges are rich sources of vitamin C and an increased intake of these foods will definitely help in getting your toddler back on his feet. Green leafy vegetables and salads are also recommended as they are loaded with nutrients essential for a healthy body. However, when sick most toddlers find it difficult to ingest solid foods. In such cases, fruit juices are an excellent option. Broth and hot soups are also recommended at such times as they provide relief. Watercress, onion and garlic are excellent expectorants which can be added to food preparations and soup alike. Bland food is advisable and fatty and oily foods should be avoided as they are not easy to digest. Giving your child a natural healing tonic made with lemon juice, finely grated ginger, honey and warm water will not only help in keeping away infection but will also help in clearing out the respiratory tract.
The inhalation of steam will help in opening up blocked air passages. The use of a vaporizer or humidifier will be advantageous in keeping your child comfortable. Applying some eucalyptus oil on your toddler’s chest just before and after a hot bath will also prove beneficial in easing the flow of air to the lungs by minimizing mucus buildup. Gently rubbing your child’s chest with a few drops of tea tree oil, lavender oil or chamomile oil diluted in almond oil may also provide relief. A paste of linseed applied to the chest and back will help to dislodge mucus and relieve uneasiness while breathing. Second-hand smoke is also known to aggravate the condition and smoking especially in the vicinity of the toddler should be refrained from completely.
