Pregnancy Week 6 Development

During pregnancy week 6, the embryo has grown to a size of almost 8 mm in length and the baby’s spinal cord will slowly begin to close during this week. Similarly during pregnancy week 6, the first blood cells and blood vessels begin to develop and the brain of the baby also starts to divide itself into 5 parts. The baby starts developing rapidly from pregnancy week 6 onwards which is exactly why women tend to feel very tired during the first trimester. During pregnancy week 6, growth in the baby is very rapid and in the form of development of ears and eyes as well as an opening which will form the mouth.

In this week the baby’s body will also form buds which will later develop into its arms and legs. In pregnancy week 6, women will experience morning sickness and nausea throughout the day along with food cravings. This phase is very critical in the development of the baby; hence pregnant women in pregnancy week 6 are advised to avoid any form of alcohol, smoking or exposure to chemical treatments. One should have plenty of fresh drinking water to remain hydrated as the vomiting may be severe. Women in the first trimester should also watch out for signs of miscarriage such as extreme cramping or abdominal pains, bleeding, passing of pinkish or grayish tissue or blood clots. Any such signs should be immediately referred to a medical practitioner.

Some women are known to experience a wave of nausea or morning sickness if they are exposed to certain smells or foods and hence it is advisable for them to avoid such smells. Women tend to lose plenty of precious foods and fluids while vomiting and hence they should ensure that they maintain a healthy intake of fluids and they may also eat some saltine crackers first thing in the morning as they are relatively lighter on the stomach. During pregnancy week 6 , the baby’s heart also starts pumping blood to the various parts of the body.

Pregnant women should also ensure that they reduce the intensity of any household work and other chores and try to get as much rest as possible. Women should also go ahead and have a diet that is rich in plenty of fruits and vegetables. They should also increase the intake of vitamins, minerals and folic acid as well as foods that are rich in calcium as the same are required for the healthy growth of the skeletal structure of the baby.
