What To Expect When You Are 7 Weeks Pregnant

Pregnancy week 7 is a very significant period in the growth and development of your baby. This is when the baby goes through several changes. To begin with, the facial features begin to take shape.

By pregnancy week 7 the baby grows to about 13 mm in length.

New brain cells get generated rapidly, at the rate of around 100 per minute, since most of the baby’s growth is concentrated in the head area. Upon close observation, the baby’s tiny mouth may be evident through an ultrasound.

You may also be able to observe through an ultrasound that the baby’s eyes appear more natural in shape, as the retina forms and takes shape. The baby’s appendix, intestines, thin veins and bone and muscle systems continue to develop through this stage and the kidneys start preparing to do their job.

Like most women who are in their seventh week, you may not look pregnant as yet, but you may feel that your clothes are getting slightly tighter and don’t feel as comfortable as before. While you still may not need maternity clothes, it is important to make sure that the clothes that you wear on a regular basis are loose-fitting and comfortable. Your partner and other close family members may be able to detect the slight visible changes in your body by now.

7 Weeks Pregnant Symptoms

Most women wonder what to expect in the seventh week and wonder if it will be very different from the sixth. Pregnancy week 7 symptoms that are quite common are frequent urination, enlargement and tenderness in the breasts, fatigue, nausea and sickness, food cravings, food aversions, excessive salivation, constipation, heartburn and indigestion. Some women also complain of severe headaches, although this is more common later on during the pregnancy. You could ask your doctor to prescribe some medication for relief from these headaches. However, the use of over-the-counter medicines may not always be possible. Alternative remedies like meditating, applying cold packs, and lying down may be required to alleviate these headaches.

Another common symptom is experiencing pregnancy week 7 cramps in the stomach. The cramps normally feel like menstrual cramps that you experience during your period. However, they are moderate in nature and should last for only about a day or two. If the cramps become severe or are accompanied by spotting, please inform your doctor immediately. Being pregnant is one of the most intriguing and exhilarating experiences of all. For the expectant mother, the 40 weeks leading to the birth of a child are not only wonderful but challenging as well due to the numerous changes that she has to deal with. Conception occurs during the ovulatory phase of a woman’s menstrual cycle. The first symptoms of pregnancy are light spotting and abdominal cramping as a result of the implantation process. This usually happens 6 to 12 days from the time of conception, when the fertilized egg burrows into the uterine wall to embed itself properly. These early indicators are usually mistaken for the onset of an early period. A missed period is the main indicator of pregnancy. Once the fertilized egg or zygote attaches itself firmly to the uterine lining, the pregnancy hormone hCG is produced. The detection of this hormone in the urine or blood serum confirms a pregnancy. The hormone hCG is responsible for the ‘morning sickness’ that most women face. This is a mixture of nausea and vomiting which are the main 7 weeks pregnant symptoms. Many women also experience aversions to certain foods and beverages and may not be able to bear certain odors as a result of the hormonal changes occurring in their bodies. On the other hand, food cravings also come into play. The rise in estrogen and progesterone levels in the blood stream also cause mood swings and many pregnant women are known to go from a state of happiness to depression or irritability. An urge to sleep and fatigue are other indicators of pregnancy. During pregnancy, many women also complain about forgetfulness and an inability to concentrate on things. An increase in hormone production also causes the breasts to become highly sensitive and even a light touch may result in tremendous pain.

The breasts also begin to become fuller and heavier. A change in bra size is inevitable through the term of the pregnancy. The areolas also begin to darken. 7 weeks early pregnancy signs also include a frequent need to urinate owing to the increase in blood supply to the abdominal region as well as the increasing weight of the uterus on the bladder. Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is not a good sign as menstrual bleeding ceases on successful implantation. Implantation takes place just before the next period would have been due. Hence, 7 weeks implantation bleeding is highly impossible. However, some women continue to bleed a little throughout their pregnancies and yet go on to have normal, healthy full term babies.

This is usually due to a sensitive cervix in which case, the tiny blood vessels in the cervix rupture due to the strain of the expanding uterus or as a result of the increased blood supply to the pelvic region. 7 weeks pregnant bleeding could be the result of cervical bleeding. Bleeding is the body’s way of signaling a complication. 7 weeks pregnancy bleeding could be an indicator of pregnancy complications like an ectopic pregnancy or a genetic abnormality in the developing baby. 7 weeks fetus bleeding especially if accompanied by severe cramping, lower back pain and the passage of blood clots could be a miscarriage in progress. No bleeding should be taken lightly and consulting a doctor immediately is highly recommended.

Pregnancy Week 7 Ultrasound

An ultrasound is the best way to confirm the status of a pregnancy because it reveals what is actually happening within the uterus. An ultrasound is very useful in determining if the pregnancy is free from complications. It can reveal pregnancy abnormalities like a blighted ovum, molar pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy. Hence, doctors recommend a 7 weeks pregnant ultrasound to rule out such complications. Many women bleed during pregnancy. An ultrasound checks for the source of the bleeding and the outcome of the bleeding and precautionary measure can be taken accordingly. An ultrasound can also reveal if the woman has had a missed abortion which is the death of the embryo within the womb itself. A 7 weeks pregnant ultrasound is mainly recommended for women who have had a history of miscarriages or those who have conceived after trying over a period of time. An ultrasound also shows the gestational age, the size of the baby and the various organs. It also shows the number of babies developing within the uterus. A 7 weeks pregnant ultrasound helps to ascertain if the pregnancy is advancing normally. The growth pattern indicates if the baby is developing well. Ultrasounds help to detect genetic abnormalities in the baby at an early stage itself. However, it is necessary to keep in mind that most abnormalities will be picked up by an ultrasound but a normal ultrasound report does not necessarily mean that the baby will definitely be completely normal. There are chances that some deformities could be overlooked in an ultrasound. A 7 weeks pregnant 3d image of a little baby resembles a comma attached by a rope, the rope being the umbilical cord that passes on nutrition from the mother to the developing baby. At this stage, the baby is just half an inch in length. 7 weeks pregnant ultrasound fetal development will reveal that the baby’s tiny heart has begun beating. The placing of the head becomes visible and the arm and leg buds begin sprouting.

7 Weeks Pregnant Weight Gain

An increase in body mass during pregnancy is one of the unavoidable changes that are a part of bringing a child into the world. Most women, especially those who are extremely conscious of their looks and figure, despise weight gain. Whatever said and done, weight gain during pregnancy is inevitable for the benefit of the little baby. On an average, women put on 25 to 35 pounds of weight during the 40 week pregnancy term. This is not solely a result of eating extra or letting go of ones self. In addition to an increase in the accumulation of maternal fats and proteins and increased breast and uterine tissue, the weight gain is a result of the weight if the baby, the placenta, the amniotic sac and amniotic fluid and an increase in the volume of blood in the body. At times, water retention also adds to the weight of the expectant mother. The first trimester being the formative stage of pregnancy, the baby weighs only around 45 to 50 grams by the end of the first trimester. Hence, 7 weeks baby weight gain is hardly anything and most people do not even notice that a woman is pregnant. In reality, a 7 weeks fetus weight gain is barely 2 grams; this is the actual weight of the fetus. 7 weeks pregnant weight gain is mainly seen in the fullness of the breasts and the discomfort experienced around the waist and hips on wearing snug fitting clothing. 7 weeks pregnancy weight gain and the increase in weight over the next few months must be through the consumption of a wholesome diet containing a good balance of various nutrients. Folic acid, omega 3 fatty acids, calcium and iron are particularly important for the proper development of the baby. Exercise in the form of swimming and walking are recommended to ensure that the expectant mother remains fit and flexible and does not retain excess weight.
