Preventing Swine Flu During Pregnancy

To prevent the swine flu, there are a few things that a pregnant woman must keep in mind. She must wash her hands or clean her hands with a hand disinfectant frequently especially if she has been outdoors. It’s also better to keep away from people who are suffering from the swine flu or any other flu or viral ailment. If there is anyone sneezing or coughing around the expectant mother, she must keep a distance from him. Even though most people wear masks to keep the viruses at bay, it may not be such a good idea as the moisture can breed more viruses instead of keeping them away.

It’s also necessary to clean surfaces like door knobs, keyboards, office cubicles, basket handles, telephones, and so on, to avoid viruses. After that, the woman must wash her hands with water and soap. It would also help to stay away from health care facilities and crowded places to avoid getting infected. Changing clothes after coming home from outside and leaving footwear outside the door is also necessary. Taking the prescribed prenatal vitamins, getting adequate rest, drinking plenty of fluids and staying hydrated, and eating healthy is also important to prevent swine flu during pregnancy as it keeps the immune system vitalized. If the expectant mother has been diagnosed with the swine flu, she will be prescribed a course of antiviral drugs, which she must take as directed by the doctor. It’s also recommended that pregnant women take vaccines in advance to prevent the swine flu.
