...uterus may develop some cancerous or precancerous cells at times during pregnancy. This is called cervical dysplasia. The causes of this condition are still unknown; however, poor nutrition, smoking, genital warts, and extensive use of oral contraceptives contribute to the development of this condition.

In case you are suffering from this condition, you may suffer from genital warts, spotting after having intercourse, irregular bleeding, abnormal vaginal discharge, and/or lower back pain.

Cervical dysplasia generally disappears on its own. However, your doctor may ask you to get a pap smear done in order to make sure that you are recovering. During pregnancy, this condition can worsen because of the hormonal changes in your body and may lead to preterm labor. Having this condition will not affect your baby in any way. Generally, post delivery this condition disappears. However, if it doesn't, then consult a doctor immediately and seek the right treatment.

Incompetent cervix is another complication that you may have in pregnancy. When the cervix is incompetent or weak, it may not be able to hold the weight of the pregnancy thus leading to a miscarriage or preterm labor.

In such a scenario, your doctor may put you on bed rest as that's the only cure for this complication. Your doctor may put some stitches near your vagina to prevent miscarriage and preterm labor. Inform your doctor if there is a family history of an incompetent cervix, premature delivery, or miscarriages. The stitches are removed when you are near your due date.

When you are suffering from an incompetent cervix, the dilation of the cervix may be around 4 centimeters or more. Also you may witness uterine contractions or some membrane ruptures. This can be determined only by a physical examination. However, in case you witness any unusual signs in your pregnancy tenure, then make sure you alert the doctor immediately before it is too late.

Follow your doctor's guidelines to the fullest and get all your queries answered. Take your medicines on time and enjoy the journey of pregnancy to the fullest.
