Reasons for Second Pregnancy Breast Tenderness

Feeling a heaviness in the breasts or feeling sensitive or sore is a completely natural feeling that all women go through when they're pregnant. This is because the body is preparing for lactation. The hormones estrogen and progesterone increase through the pregnancy, causing a rush of blood into the breasts which may cause a tingling sensation or can result in soreness.

Quite often breast tenderness, be it the first pregnancy or second, disappears in the second and third trimester. In fact, there are several women, who don't experience any tenderness during their second pregnancy.

Breast tenderness also occurs because during pregnancy the breasts grow in size and get heavier causing the skin to stretch and in several cases result in stretch marks. Sometimes, the excessive stretching of the skin also makes it very sensitive and quite often itchy.

Treatment for Second Pregnancy Breast Tenderness

Breast tenderness can be an uncomfortable feeling. Therefore, it is important to wear comfortable cotton bras. It is also advisable to buy bras with a little room as the cup size tends to increase through the pregnancy.

Women who want to keep their breast size in check should ensure they don't put on too much weight during the pregnancy as this will impact the breasts too. Secondly, chest exercises go a long way in keeping the skin around the breasts flexible and reducing the danger of stretch marks. Besides, exercises will also ensure that breasts don't get heavier than normal.

However, in a second pregnancy, especially one soon after the first, women find it hard to make time for exercises. Nor do they have enough time to prepare and eat the right kind of food. In such cases, women can take some time out for a warm bath and in case of any soreness in the breasts, use a cold compress to relieve the discomfort.
