Pregnancy Clothes

During pregnancy comfort takes precedence to style as far as dressing up is concerned. Pregnant women are advised to think ahead and purchase or alter existing clothes so that they are loose and comfortable and as the baby grows, the mother should not feel restricted or uncomfortable in her clothing. Pregnant women are known to feel warmer and also have swelling of the hands and feet during pregnancy which mostly tends to occur towards the latter part of the day. Hence even hosiery and footwear should be selected accordingly. Pregnant women are advised to wear clothes made of natural fabrics rather than synthetic fabrics like polyester as they tend to trap heat and are particularly uncomfortable in warm weather conditions. Most pregnant women need to realize that the more they grow during pregnancy the more unstable they get in terms of their sense of balance. Hence they need to play safe and wear shoes that are flat heeled, low, easy fitting and comfortable. The shoes should be roomy allowing the feet to breathe and should ideally have a non slip sole for additional safety. Infact as far as possible, pregnant women may go barefoot whenever they can. Infact pregnant women are advised to wear shoes that have Velcro straps so that they can be adjusted easily.

During pregnancy women should also wear lingerie that is specially made for them. Women should invest in a good bra during pregnancy because the breasts tend to grow mostly in the first three months of pregnancy and if they are not provided adequate support during pregnancy they will tend to sag later on. This is mostly on account of the fibrous tissue to which the breasts are attached losing its shape once stretched. Additionally a few weeks prior to their due date pregnant women should also purchase front opening nursing bras so that they are able to breastfeed their babies easily. For those women who are keen on wearing socks during pregnancy, it’s recommended to wear loose fitting cotton socks because otherwise the synthetic material will cut into feet once they swell. Some women suffer vaginal yeast infection or thrush during pregnancy. In such cases they may be more comfortable wearing a garter belt and stockings instead of pantyhose.

On the whole, pregnant women should wear clothes that are roomy, loose and comfortable that will allow them to remain cool and also remain comfortable as the pregnancy progresses.
