13 Weeks Pregnant With Second Baby

Submitted by Nick on January 19, 2012

Being 13 weeks pregnant with a second baby is not that much different than being 13 months pregnant with your first one. The only major difference is that while caring for your newborn, you will also now have to care for your other child. Week 13 is known to be the last week of the first trimester, and this marks a new beginning for you and your baby. In the coming weeks, your baby will begin to show movement in the fetus, and you will begin to feel the kicks of the baby as well. There are many symptoms such as nausea and fatigue that will begin to subside during this week and you will have more time and energy for your other child.

Having a second baby can be stressful for many moms. After the first trimester, where the hormones are doing their worst to your body, the second trimester is rather peaceful, so when you are 13 weeks pregnant with your 2nd baby, welcome this change with open arms. Although your morning sickness will decline now, you will see a tremendous rise in your appetite.

Your baby is developing rapidly, and its kidneys will have started to function. So you will be going to the toilet a lot more than usual. Also, you will begin to feel some pain in your back due to your ever increasing uterus. Usually, because of the uterus, the thick band of muscles around your back can begin to hurt. Also, as the uterus grows, the ligaments around it also stretch and cause pain.

There are slim chances of women having a miscarriage in their second trimester, so after your thirteenth week, you can relax a little. Your baby is also safe and growing well. When you are 13 weeks pregnant with a second infant, try and involve your other child in the pregnancy as well. Taking your first born to your routine doctor visits can help the child identify with the new baby. You can also show them the ultrasounds and let them feel the baby kicking. Although this is a tiring time for you, and you can get easily fatigued, this is also a very emotional time for your older child. This means that you should spend some time with your first born so that they do not think that you do not love them anymore.
13 weeks pregnant with a second newborn can be a wonderful time for you, your partner, and your first born. This is a special time in your pregnancy and you should make the most of it.
