In the first week of the first trimester, the women who have just found out that they are pregnant should start increasing their intake of folic acid and iron and other essential vitamins and nutrients. During week 2 of a pregnancy week by week experience, the uterus starts building a fresh layer of endometrium which will nourish and cushion the baby. During weeks 3 and 4 of pregnancy, the progesterone levels in the mother will increase which in turn causes the uterine lining to start building up its supply of arterial blood, glycogen, amino acids, water and secretory glands.

In the next few weeks to come in a pregnancy week by week description, the fertilized egg will firmly implant itself in the wall of the uterus and some women might even experience a mild amount of bloody spotting during this implantation. Women in their first trimester and even during the rest of the pregnancy should be vary about consuming any sort of medication and only take the prior approval of their medical practitioner.

The baby also starts developing within the uterus in the form of a ball of cells known as a blastocyst within which three layers of cells will soon be formed to give rise to the nervous system, skin, hair, gastrointestinal tract, skeleton, muscle mass and various other organs. Throughout the pregnancy women should concentrate in following a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, calcium rich foods and water. This is because the baby is completely dependent on the mother for its nutritional intake. Women should also go for regular medical checks during pregnancy to take the necessary corrective or preventive action in case of a complication in the mother or child.
