Pregnancy Signs 3 Weeks

Submitted by Pregnancy and Baby Care team on February 1, 2012

By the end of four weeks you will expect your periods to arrive. If it does not, there is a good chance that you might be pregnant. However, you may even notice some changes while you are three week pregnant. Some women feel tired all the time. This is not surprising considering the fact that your body is supporting the birth of a new born. You might experience the same symptoms as you feel during the time of menstruation. A home pregnancy test is enough to confirm if you are pregnant or not by the end of week four. It might take a few days or more for some women to confirm their pregnancy.

You may start experiencing early pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bloating, cramping, and mood swings—all very similar to premenstrual syndrome. You might also experience implantation spotting, which occurs when the egg settles into your uterus. You may feel a little heavy on your abdomen and your breasts may feel little tender or may become a little bigger.

The implantation and development of the placenta leads to both hormonal changes and physical changes which affects both your temperament and your body. The pregnancy week four symptoms may be subtle or unnoticed and in many cases they are confused with premenstrual syndrome.

Your baby’s organs start developing by week four of pregnancy. The early weeks are considered very critical for the baby’s growth and development. As you continue to grow and expand during your pregnancy, your placenta helps provide blood and all essential nutrients to the fetus. Progesterone slows down your digestion to allow more nutrients to enter the blood stream and reach your baby. However, you may not be aware of many significant changes by week three, other than a few symptoms similar to those of premenstrual syndrome. You might start experiencing symptoms from week four, which signifies the start of the embryonic period.

You may put on a few pounds and as your pregnancy progresses your waistline will begin to expand. You can gain around 25 to 30 extra pounds during the nine months of your pregnancy.

Keep in mind that you may not be able to confirm the pregnancy until the end of the first month. This is also a good time to start taking proper care of yourself. Eat healthy and follow a regular fitness routine. Cut back on the consumption of alcoholic drinks and if you are a smoker, this is the best time to quit.
