Submitted by Nic on January 17, 2012
A miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of a fetus, before the 20th week of pregnancy. Unfortunately, the chances of a miscarriage are quite high during the first trimester. It is believed that almost 15% to 20% of all the confirmed pregnancies result in a miscarriage within the first 12 weeks (three months). The actual figures could be much higher though, as many women do not even realize that they are pregnant till the 7th week or so. In case they have a miscarriage at around that time, they may not even realize it. Many women completely misread the signs of miscarriage at 7 weeks; instead, they believe that they have got their periods a bit late.
