Normal toddler growth and development does not stick to a described format, but given that each child is unique in his or her own experiences and learning abilities, there are ballpark estimates about what a child should be able to do by a certain age. For instance, some of the most widely used is toddler development milestones which state that the child should be able to say the words ‘mama’ and ‘dada’ by the time he or she is about 15 months old. By the same age, he must also be able to gesture to the parents and draw their attention with his hands and head. Toddlers are also expected to be able to say about 15 words by the time that they are 18 months old. In the event that you are worried that your child may not be up to speed, you may want to take him or her to your local toddler language development specialist for a clinical diagnosis.
