Prevent Insomnia in Early Pregnancy

Insomnia is an early sign of pregnancy. Here are some tips:

  • You can try prenatal yoga as well as meditation to calm your mind and soothe your frayed nerves. We suggest you learn yoga from a qualified yoga teacher and do every pose carefully. Either join a yoga studio or practice in a room in your house where you’re most comfortable.
  • A warm bath before you get into bed can help to promote sound sleep. Ensure that the temperature of the room is comfortable too, so that you can fall asleep quickly and easily.
  • If your insomnia is caused due to anxiety, then try art therapy or journaling. Write your thoughts down in a diary or draw something in an art journal. These activities help relaxing the mind.
  • If you feel uncomfortable while lying down, then use a pregnancy pillow or a whole body pillow to support your stomach. Try placing a pillow between your legs and slip a small pillow under your growing abdomen. Use pillows to get comfortable in bed.
  • You will need to use the bathroom very frequently and this might disrupt your sleep. What you can do is drink as much water as you want through the day and drink very less water or fluids before you go to bed. Drinking too much of fluids before you go to bed can lead to more frequent trips to the bathroom.
  • If you have problem moving in bed, then use silk sheets or wear a silky nightgown. Soft and slippery, silk will help you move a bit more easily when you turn from one side to another.
  • Remind yourself that worries can wait for the morning and convince yourself to sleep even if something is worrying you.
  • Try drinking a glass of warm milk before you go to bed.
