Pregnancy And Baby Care Ask a question Pregnancy Miscarriage
What are my chances or having a baby after 2 miscarriages and 1 baby?
A miscarriage is one of the most trying moments in a woman’s life as the loss of a baby is insurmountable. As many as 20 percent of the total number of known pregnancies end in miscarriages and many women are believed to experience a miscarriage even before realizing that they were pregnant. Most of these women go on to have absolutely normal, successful pregnancies after miscarriage. Since you have mentioned that one pregnancy has been successful and assuming that your baby is absolutely healthy and normal, the chances of having another baby are good.
The main
cause of miscarriages, especially in the initial weeks of pregnancy, is genetic abnormalities in the developing baby. This is generally caused by an imbalance in the number of chromosomes passed on by either of the parents during fertilization. Most women who miscarry due to genetic deformities in the baby are advised to seek genetic counseling before attempting to conceive another baby, especially if the mother experienced more than one miscarriage. If your baby was born with no abnormalities, genetic anomalies are not a probable cause of the miscarriages. Another common cause of miscarriage is uterine defects that do not permit the carrying of the baby to term. However, this too may not be the cause in your case as you have had a successful pregnancy.
Other causes of miscarriage are stress, overexertion, physical or emotional trauma and an unhealthy lifestyle. Conditions like high blood pressure, high blood sugar, preeclampsia, connective tissue disorder and hypothyroidism can also be the cause of miscarriage. Consulting your gynecologist before planning a pregnancy is recommended. He or she may recommend some medical tests or medication prior to conception. Such cases may also be reviewed as high priority cases with close monitoring. Regular visits to the doctor are a must. The doctor may also advise certain tests through the term of the pregnancy to check the development of the baby. Pregnancy fortifying medication may also be prescribed. It is but natural for a woman who has experienced the loss of a baby to feel a certain amount of anxiety regarding the wellbeing of the baby developing within her womb. However, any form of stress should be completely avoided for the safety of the unborn baby. Eat healthy and exercise as recommended by your gynecologist. In some cases, complete bed rest may be advised. Overexertion must be avoided at all cost. It should also be remembered that sufficient rest and sleep play a vital role in the success of a pregnancy.
