Studies indicate that most women who feel that they are developing new allergies after pregnancy have actually experienced at least one bout of an allergic episode earlier on in life but just don’t recall it. Several seasonal allergies affect female toddlers and children, only to disappear as they reach adolescence. These allergies could then return when women have their own babies. However, this does not mean that developing allergies after pregnancy for the first time is not possible. There are several women who have developed allergies after pregnancy, even when there is no history of prior allergic sensitivity.
Another factor is that there are numerous hormonal changes that take place within a woman’s body, during the course of pregnancy and perhaps even after it. Some of these hormonal fluctuations could trigger off negative reactions towards certain substances or even foods, for the first time. Moreover, it is normal for any pregnant woman or a new mother to go through high levels of stress, which in turn is one of the main factors that lead to allergies. After childbirth, it is also quite likely for a woman’s immune system to get weakened, probably due to the loss of blood. Unfortunately, many pregnant women stay away from certain nutritious food, mainly because they want to get back to their pre-pregnancy weight as soon as possible.
Most instances of allergies after pregnancy are not serious or severe. However, it is best for mothers to avoid any allergens that could trigger of an adverse effect on the body.
