Here are some tips to ease the process and help stop breastfeeding toddlers. First and foremost, you must stop one of the breastfeed meals of the toddler. You can replace this meal with baby foods. Gradually, you can stop two breastfeed meals, and so on. However, there must be a time lag of at least a week or so every time to remove breast milk from a meal.

An effective way to stop breastfeeding a toddler is to introduce some solid foods like banana mash. You can feed your baby small sandwiches and fruits in dips to make them acquainted with the taste of various foods.

Another way to stop breastfeeding a toddler is to distract them. Toddlers like playing in water; hence, try to distract them by allowing them to play around with their toys in the sink. You can then feed them with solid foods while they are distracted. It is most difficult for toddlers to give up their nighttime breast feed. It is part of their bedtime routine. As such, you can give them water in sipping cups to help give up this breastfeed meal. Another useful way to stop breastfeeding a toddler is to get him/her an attractive cup. This allows them to feel independent and motivates them to have milk in a cup. You can show them pictures of breastfeeding of infants and tell them that they are now big and do not need a mother’s milk.

You need to remember that it is not easy for a toddler to give up breast milk and enjoy new foods instantly. So give your toddler some time to get acquainted and adjusted with the new foods.
