When do infant growth spurts happen?

(April 18, 2011)

Watching children grow is one of the most exhilarating experiences you could ever have. From the time the child is conceived in the womb, growth and development is being monitored with the help of ultrasounds. After the baby is born, there are so many new experiences that the parents have – experiences of joy and wonder that they cherish for life. Infants grow steadily and experience growth spurts early in their lives. There is no accurate answer to the question ‘When do infant growth spurts happen?’ As you may have observed, children do not just grow tall early one morning. They gain height gradually, but this growth is in spurts that are not really noticeable.

There are not many symptoms to define baby growth spurts, but the most common infant growth spurts symptoms include a sharp pain experienced in the limbs. While the body is growing and the skeletal structure is taking its shape, there is a possibility that your child will experience some pain. The best way to take care of this pain is to give the child’s body a rub down with soothing oil. Keeping the body snugly wrapped will also help to relieve some of the pain that is experienced primarily at night, when the body is at rest. Massaging the hands and legs will also help to ease the pain that your child is experiencing as he or she continues to grow.

With reference to the availability of an infant growth spurt schedule, again, there is no accurate measure of when and how your child will grow. Every child is unique and will develop in his or her own way and at his or her own pace and time.  Giving your child the freedom to run about and play will help in the growth process and gives the body enough freedom to develop completely. The skeletal system and the muscular system need to develop in tandem with each other and therefore children are advised to indulge in physical recreation on a daily basis. Ensuring that your child gets the correct amount of nutrition through his or her daily diet is another very important aspect of growing up. The body needs to gain a certain amount of calcium everyday in order for the skeletal structure to remain strong. Similarly, ensuring that your child consumes protein will ensure that the worn out tissues are being repaired and strengthened regularly.
