...first trimester is not a major cause for concern and nor does it lead to any grave discomfort, it can be a bit of an embarrassment.

This symptom is generally first noticed in the 6th week of pregnancy and can last for an indefinite period of time. The main factor that leads to frequent urination in pregnancy first trimester is the pressure that is applied on the bladder, by the uterus, which keeps growing in order to accommodate the baby. Moreover, the embryo produces a hormone known as Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) because of which the content of fluid in the body increases. Apart from frequent urination in the pregnancy first trimester, this pressure could also cause the pregnant woman to leak urine while laughing, coughing or sneezing. This phenomenon is known as urinary incontinence.

Some women may try to deal with this symptom, by holding the urine in, or waiting till the last second, before going to the bathroom. However, pregnant women should never control the urge to urinate, even for a few minutes, no matter how often they need to go. Holding the urine back is one of the main causes of urinary tract infections in pregnancy. This practice may also cause the woman's bladder to get distended.

Unfortunately, the problem of frequent urination during pregnancy first trimester could cause some women to lose sleep, if they need to get up every few hours, in order to use the bathroom. However, this problem can be prevented if pregnant women control their consumption of water in the evening. Fluids that contain caffeine, like coffee and aerated drinks also cause people to urinate more frequently than normal. This is because these beverages have diuretic qualities and should be consumed only in limited quantities.

Many pregnant women are worried about the embarrassment they may face because they need to use the bathroom too often or about staining their underwear and clothes after a severe bout of coughing or sneezing. However, the use of panty a liner not only helps to reduce the embarrassment, but it can increase the levels of hygiene in pregnant women. It is also possible for pregnant women to reduce the frequency of the trips to the bathroom by emptying out their bladder completely, with every trip.

In case a woman stops urinating frequently all of a sudden, it may be best for her to consult her doctor immediately. This is because a reduction in the symptoms of pregnancy could be an indication of a miscarriage. At times, a woman be have the urge to go to the bathroom, but is unable to pass more than a few drops of urine. Moreover, the frequent urination during pregnancy first trimester could be accompanied by pain, a burning sensation, traces of blood and pus. If any of these symptoms are evident, it may be important to consult a doctor immediately as these signs could be an indication of a severe infection in the urinary tract, which will require treatment. If the UTI is not checked and controlled in time, it can further lead to kidney infections and preterm labor.
