...will be around fifteen to sixteen inches long. The baby’s head is around 3.5 inches in diameter and the feet are around 2.5 inches long.

Your baby is fully grown by this time and is getting ready to embrace the world. By this time, the skin that has been wrinkled all this while becomes smooth and the baby manages to control its body temperature even while in your womb.

If the baby is a boy, by this time, his testicles will have started moving down towards the groin area. Your baby is continuing to grow fatter with each passing day and is growing at a faster pace. Even now your baby gets all its nourishment through the umbilical cord. The bone marrow starts producing red blood corpuscles. These cells help in transporting the oxygen and will also remove the waste products from your baby’s body. Another important aspect of fetal development at week 20 is that the baby’s body also starts storing iron at this stage.

Your baby’s eyebrows and eyelashes are fully developed by now. The hair on your baby’s head also gets thicker. By now the head and body are more or less in proportion like a newborn baby and the baby’s hands are also fully developed. His/her fingernails are completely formed. Around this time, you may start experiencing some swelling around your ankles and on your hands. This is because the growing baby adds to the already existing pressure on your uterus. As a result, your body starts retaining fluids and your body swells up. Do not worry as all these symptoms will slowly fade away from the moment you deliver your baby.

Eye movement is another key aspect of fetal development at week 30 and by this time, your baby can also respond to any light that comes in his/her direction as he or she can move their eyes side to side or up and down. Cherish these moments and expect many more surprises coming your way in the next few months.
