Every parent enjoys watching their child grow and develop. There are several stages and milestones of baby development and one of the important17 month baby milestones is talking. Your baby is still learning to talk and his vocabulary is gradually increasing. There are a few words that he will use regularly, however, the speech may still not be very clear and they might utter a few words every now and then. Your baby will normally repeat everything that he hears and therefore, if you speak a word or two, he will say it after you.

Thus, you need to be mindful of what you say when your baby is around. You can help your child to build up his vocabulary by repeating the names of various objects that he comes in contact with on a daily basis. Also, when you are out with him, point to familiar things and tell him what it is so that he knows it.


Your child loves to dance and as soon as music is played he will be on his feet and dancing. Dancing is considered to be one of the many 17 month baby milestones and it helps the child improve his balance. He loves to play games and ride around on toys. He even has his own favorite toy or doll by now and will want to play with it, talk to it, eat with it, and feed it.

Kids, by now, become very choosy about their food and therefore, create a lot of fuss while eating. One of the 17 month baby milestones is the child's ability to recognize colors and keep toys aside according to their color. They are even able to kick a ball. They can walk well by this time and can even follow and understand instructions to walk in a certain direction. In case your child is still not talking a lot, try talking to him as much as possible and make sure you talk in short sentences. This is particularly helpful if your child is not able to comprehend what you saying or is getting confused. Also, ensure that you use the positive reinforcement technique to teach your child rather than using the negative reinforcement technique. You need to remember that the rate of development of every child is different and while some babies may grasp and learn quickly and some may take a relatively longer time. If this is the case, there is no need to worry as they will start to learn and understand in due course. You need to simply continue to teach them and give them all your love and affection.
